Today is a very special day for the team here at Brightwayz... It's our 18th Birthday!

To celebrate, we're taking a walk down memory lane... Back to the birth of Brightkidz, its development into Brightwayz, a look at some of our favourite milestones and our plans for the future.

A Look Back

18 years ago today, our founder Alison set up Brightkidz - a social enterprise inspired by her own experience of organising a ‘walking bus’ scheme at her son’s school.

Recognising other parents needed help to run their own walk to school initiatives, she set up Brightkidz to offer practical information and resources to support them. Bright waistcoats, stickers and badges were some of the first products developed and the range quickly grew.

Very soon local authorities from across the UK heard about Brightkidz and became regular customers, using the engaging, customisable products to support and promote their own active travel and road safety schemes - not just for children but for adults too.

Brightwayz All Grown Up

Brightkidz has now come of age and in recent years has developed into Brightwayz - for all ages. Over the last couple of years we have really grown up. And our name changed to reflect that. We provide products, information and consultancy services to support active travel initiatives for workplaces and communities as well as schools. We have been supporting the public engagement process for the Kettering Local Walking and Cycling Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) - running events for businesses and the community so they can have their say. We are also proud to be working with Rushden Lakes retail and leisure centre to help enable staff and visitors to travel in more sustainable and active ways to this popular venue. Our product ranges are getting more and more geared towards serving the needs of campaigns for adults as well as continuing to provide lots of fun, practical active travel resources for children.

Since 2017, we have compiled timelines of each year's milestones to track and celebrate the impact of the work we do. This is published on the Brightkidz website under 'About Us', click here to have a look at our most recent timeline!
